Cross Cutting Concepts Cause and Effect Through An Art Lens


Participants consider the crosscutting concept of cause and effect through the lens of artmaking. They are introduced to multimedia artists who juxtapose audio and visual effects, then work in school teams to create their own group videos. During the second hour, groups continue developing units that connect physical science and art practices through cause and effect.

Part 1: Welcome, Survey, Review of Cause and Effect

Share the agenda for the day. Review crosscutting concept of cause and effect.Listen to sound artists Janet Cardiff & George Bures Miller installation FOREST. Discuss the dissonance between the audio and the visual that the artists created.

Part 2: Cause and Effect Video Activity

Breakout groups work together to create a video with a cause and effect focus, which they’ll complete and share during the next PD.

Part 3: Lesson Planning/Group Work Time, Wrap-up

After completing the video activity, school teams continue to work on developing STEAM Ahead Cause and Effect units.
