Unit Outline
Colors, Shapes, and Symmetry
Find out how Second Graders explore colors and shapes to express moods, mathematical equations, and designs in this 15-lesson unit. Students observe hand paintings created thousands of years ago, then re-create the paintings as a catalyst for discussing the meaning of art. They create three-dimensional designs and symmetrical cityscapes as they work collaboratively and creatively to make connections between art, science, math, and engineering. Artists Alma Thomas, Nina Chanel Abney and Wilson Bentley are featured in this unit.
