Use the work of Joseph Yoakum to observe and create landscape artwork based on weather of different seasons.
Lesson SequenceLesson 1: Introduce work of Joseph Yoakum. Observe landscape with a focus on organic shapes and colors. Consider foreground, middle ground and background.
Lesson 2: Create watercolor-resist landscape paintings in Yoakum’s style. Share work with each other.
Lessons 3: Observe photos of cities during different seasons. Discuss weather throughout the year. Create a landscape image from the month of own birth.
Lesson 4: Present work to create a year-long landscape mural. Create a chart of words for each season.
